Advanced Diagnosis and Treatment Procedures Performed by a U.K.-Trained Pulmonary and Respiratory Care Specialist
Pulmonology focuses on the health of the respiratory system, which comprises the airways, the lungs and the respiratory muscles.
It addresses such acute or chronic disorders as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung cancer, pneumonia, chronic cough, chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis, allergic rhinitis and sinusitis, sleep disorders, pulmonary fibrosis, interstitial lung disease, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension, sarcoidosis and tuberculosis.
Euracare’s U.K.-trained pulmonary and respiratory care specialist Dr Audrey Forson provides a comprehensive array of diagnostic & treatment procedures.
In particular, Dr Forson performs examinations of the throat, larynx, trachea, and lower airways using the Olympus BF – Q170 Broncho-video-scope. Its optical image enhancement technology greatly improves visualisation of vessels on the mucosal surface. Its flexible bronchoscope makes general anesthesia unnecessary, is more comfortable for the patient, and offers a better view of the smaller airways than the rigid models. During the examination, the specialist can collect small tissue samples to perform a biopsy, and remove growths or objects in the airway.
In addition to the endoscopic suite, the specialist can perform a spirometry test, a full lung function test or other investigations making use of Euracare’s world-class medical imaging and diagnostic equipment:
- 1.5 Tesla MRI
- 64-Slice CT
- Digital X-ray
- Ultrasound Systems
- Clinical Laboratory
In conjunction with Euracare’s team of Ghanaian and internationally-trained nurses and radiology & laboratory technicians, the specialist ensures that patients are kept safe and comfortable at all times during the procedures.
Special attention is given to infection control. The bronchoscopy/endoscopy suite is equipped with a state of the art TD – 20 disinfector to ensure sterilization is conducted according to international norms and standards. As a further safety measure, all instrumentation used is disposable.
