Gastroenterology & Gastrointestinal Surgery Services Performed by a Leading, UK-Based Surgeon

Gastrointestinal medicine, or gastroenterology, focuses on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the pancreas, liver, gallbladder, esophagus, stomach, small intestine and colon.

It addresses such conditions as acid reflux, ulcers, IBS, hepatitis C, polyps or growth in the large intestine, jaundice or yellowing of the skin, hemorrhoids, hernias, pancreatitis and colon cancer.

Certain gastrointestinal conditions require a specialized type of diagnostic procedure called endoscopy (literally “looking inside”).

Endoscopy allows the specialist to examine the interior of a hollow organ or cavity of the body by using an instrument called an endoscope. Unlike most other medical imaging techniques, endoscopes are inserted directly into the organ.

Endoscopic gastrointestinal procedures include colonoscopy & sigmoidoscopy (focused on the colon) and proctoscopy (focused on the anal cavity, rectum or sigmoid colon).

Certain gastrointestinal conditions can also be best addressed through upper gastrointestinal surgery.

Euracare offers gastrointestinal diagnostic and upper gastrointestinal surgical procedures performed by Doctor Abuchi Okaro, a consultant with the Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth, UK.

Doctor Okaro has extensive expertise and experience in all major gastrointestinal diagnostic and upper gastrointestinal surgical procedures, including:

  • Colonoscopy
  • Sigmoidoscopy
  • Proctoscopy
  • Hernia repair of all types (incisional, inguinal, femoral, umbilical, hiatus and diaphragmatic)
  • Cyst removal
  • Hemorrhoid banding
  • Cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal)
  • Anti-reflux procedures

At Euracare, these surgical procedures are performed using minimally invasive techniques such as laparoscopy. The benefits of minimally invasive surgery over “traditional”, open surgery are many and significant:

  • Small incisions, few incisions, or no incision
  • Less pain
  • Low risk of infection
  • Short hospital stay
  • Quick recovery time
  • Less scarring
  • Reduced blood loss

Euracare’s integrated Operating Theater is specially configured for minimally invasive surgery and is equipped with such equipment as an Olympus surgical microscope, a Siemens C-Arm, an endoscopy suite and a laparoscopy suite.

Doctor Okaro also performs weight loss surgical procedures. For more information, go to the dedicated page.

An accurate diagnosis is critical in determining the patient’s exact condition and designing the appropriate treatment course. For this, Doctor Okaro relies on Euracare’s world-class medical imaging and diagnostic equipment:

  • 1.5 Tesla MRI
  • 64-Slice CT
  • Digital X-ray
