Gastro-Intestinal Clinic Services:

How to prepare for your first outpatient visit?
Your first visit as a new patient will last 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the complexity of your problem. During this time, we will take a detailed history and examine you if deemed necessary. This visit does not require any special preparation. In addition to any prior medical history, you may want to bring the following items along to your first appointment or fax/drop off before your appointment if possible:

  • Previous doctor visits and clinic notes
  • Radiology reports: x-ray, ultrasound, CT or MRI
  • OGD/colonoscopy reports
  • OGD/colonoscopy biopsy results
  • Laboratory results (blood, stool, or urine test results)
  • Any other pertinent information
  • Written list of medications taken and drug allergies.
  • Hospital discharge summary

What tests may you need?
It depends on the presenting problem and we may require you to have some immediate tests or we may plan to see you first and then arrange tests later. These tests will be discussed with you and full details of necessary preparation will be given. If you require an endoscopy, this usually takes place at another visit. A follow up visit may be required to review the results of any investigations or monitor any treatment started.
